Mixed colors cosmos

A cheerful mix of single-flowered cosmos in white, pink and violet that fills summer with colour.

About the variety. Medium-sized annual plant, 50 to 80 cm, bee-friendly with edible flowers; regular cutting strengthens the plant and encourages even more blooms. Excellent in containers too.

Sementeira

Started in a tray and transplanted to the final location once the seedlings have at least 5 leaves.

Solo

It adapts to many soil types, even poor ones, but prefers well-drained and moderately fertile soils, as very fertile soils promote excessive vegetative growth at the expense of flower production. The ideal pH is between 6.5 and 7.5.

Clima

Prefers locations with good sun exposure and warm climates, and does not tolerate low temperatures or frost.

Fertilização

The incorporation of base compost is recommended and promotes crop development.

Rega

Although this crop tolerates short dry spells, the soil should always be kept moist without waterlogging, making drip irrigation a great choice.

Mulching with organic materials is a good option for the crop, reducing competition from weeds.

Aphids, snails and slugs are pests that can infest the crop. To control aphids, natural limitation should be carried out using hedgerows with aphids of other species to encourage beneficial insects, biological control with parasitoid hymenoptera and predators, and, if necessary, the application of potassium soap or azadirachtin. To control snails and slugs, beneficial insects (staphylinid beetles) should be encouraged and, if necessary, ferric orthophosphate applied.

Doenças

The crop does not present notable diseases; adequate crop rotations, wide spacing, and avoiding excess vigour and water on the plants will be sufficient to control any problems that may arise.
