Prefers well-drained soils rich in organic matter, with a pH between 6.5 and 7.0.
Prefers locations with a temperate climate, with a cold and rainy season and dry summers.
It is not a demanding crop, but it responds well to the application of compost as base fertilization.
Care must be taken with watering, as the crop requires water frequently and does not tolerate drought well. Drip irrigation is therefore a good option for this crop.
Mechanical weeding with a star hoe and multi-blade cultivator in the early stages of the crop, along with mulching with organic materials, are options that help prevent competition between weeds and the crop.
