Luffa

A remarkable plant that offers much more than fruit: the luffa is the sponge that grows in the garden.

About the variety. Indeterminate in growth and climbing in habit, it produces cylindrical fruits that reach medium-large size. Flowering is photosensitive — it only begins when daylight drops to 12 hours, in September. Left to dry on the plant, the fibrous flesh transforms into a long-lasting natural sponge. It prefers rich soils and frequent watering.
