Sementeira
Sown directly in the final location, ensuring the seed is firmly pressed into the soil.
A beetroot unlike any other: long, slender and cylindrical, with a deep red flesh that slices into perfect rounds.
About the variety. Cylindra stands out for its elongated shape, which makes for even slicing when cooking or preserving. Harvested young, it develops the best flavour; left to grow larger, it keeps very well through winter.

Um guia de cultivo passo a passo, da sementeira à colheita.

The crop prefers deep, well-aerated soils with high water retention capacity and little tendency to form surface crusts. The pH should be between 6.0 and 7.5. The crop has some resistance to salinity.
The crop adapts well to temperate, bright, and humid climates.
It is a demanding crop, so compost should be incorporated into the soil before planting.
In sandy soils, water retention capacity is lower, so watering should be lighter and more frequent, with the opposite being true in clay soils. A drip irrigation system is a good option.
Prior to crop establishment, stale seedbeds and soil solarization can be used; after sowing, mechanical methods or mulching with organic materials are applied.
Aphids, wireworms, cutworms, cabbage fly and nematodes are pests of this crop. To control aphids, moderate fertilisation without excess nitrogen should be carried out, along with natural limitation using hedgerows at field borders to favour beneficial insects, biological control with parasitoid and predatory hymenoptera and, if necessary, application of potassium soap or azadirachtin. Wireworms should be controlled by avoiding higher-risk soils such as those with forage crops, maize or potato as the preceding crop, and by soil tillage with light ploughing, harrowing or use of a vibrocultor. Cutworms are controlled by avoiding the use of fresh manure, by using bait with bran + molasses + Bacillus thuringiensis on the soil near the crop, Bacillus thuringiensis as a spray, biological control with Steinernema carpocapsae nematodes and, if necessary, by applications of azadirachtin. Cabbage fly is controlled through green cover with white clover, spreading sawdust or ash between plants, not using fresh manure and covering the soil with plastic around the plants. Nematodes are controlled through appropriate crop rotations, biofumigation and soil solarisation.
Powdery mildew is a crop disease; for its control, wide plant spacing, moderate nitrogen fertilisation, and the use of wettable sulphur powder or sulphur powder + lithothamne (1:1) as a dust application (less phytotoxic than pure sulphur) are recommended.
